Founded in 1907 as the National Association of Building
Owners and Managers, today’s international organization for
building developers, owners, managers, operators, and
providers actively and responsibly represents and promotes
the interests of the commercial real estate industry. In
North America, the Washington,
D.C.-based Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA)
International’s
15,000+ members own or manage more than nine (9) billion
square feet of commercial properties
in North America. In addition to 92 local associations
throughout the United States, BOMA International has13
overseas affiliates in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland,
Indonesia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines,
Russia, and South
Africa.
BOMA is a
primary source of information on office building
development, leasing, building operating costs, energy
consumption patterns, local and national building codes,
legislation, occupancy statistics and technological
developments.
Throughout
BOMA's long history, its goal has always focused on actively
and responsibly representing and promoting the interests of
the commercial real estate industry through effective
leadership and advocacy, through the collection, analysis
and dissemination of information, and through professional
development.

I.
Advocacy:
BOMA International monitors legislation on a national level;
keeping local organizations informed on pending legislation's
effect on the office building industry. BOMA Birmingham tracks
local issues and keeps members informed on what’s hot affecting
life/safety, new construction, emergency preparedness and
building codes among many others.
II. Networking:
BOMA Birmingham provides a great way to network with real estate
peers, through monthly luncheon meetings featuring great venues
and guest speakers.
III. Education:
BOMA Birmingham sponsors a library of BOMA publications
available to all members. Other educational offerings include
monthly guest speakers, teleconference seminars, half-day
seminars, and regional & international conventions that feature
many program choices to expand your knowledge of the industry.
IV. Designation Programs:
Working with BOMI Institute, BOMA Birmingham sponsors classroom
instruction for members to earn professional designations
including Real Property Administrator (RPA) and supports home
study for the Facilities Management Administrator (FMA) and
Systems Management Administrator (SMA).
V.
Social:
Part of the BOMA Birmingham experience includes having fun with
your peers through golf tournaments, cocktail parties with other
trade organizations, luncheon meetings and an annual holiday
party.
